The second in a series of shots on what makes a BMW a BMW. A few design characteristics that are on every BMW you’ll see on the roads today.

Fourth: Hofmeister Kink
The curve of the C-Pillar first introduced in the thirties by Wilhelm Hofmeister – the then design chief for BMW.

Third: The Hip Line
Possibly a feature of the newer cars (from the eighties), but it is visible on some of the older cars. The Hip line is a line that runs from just behind the indicator on the front wing – pierces the front wheel arch then emerges again just behind the wheel arch and runs to the back of the car above the rear wheel arch. This helps give the appearance that the car runs Nose down, which isn’t always the case.
I was happy enough with this shot – considering it was done with nothing but an led torch!

Second: Kidney Grill – Nose
The traditional “kidney” grill was first introduced in the twenties or thirties. A design that stemmed from an effort to improve aerodynamic performance, cooling and breathing for the engine. Originally they were very tall and thin, but over the years, they have evolved into the short, wide grill that you see on the road these days.

First: Four Round lights – Eyes. Back in the day, there were single round lights. But the quad round lights were introduced on the premium models to distinguish them from lower spec’d models. Since the mid eighties, the quad round lights have been the norm.
This shot was a little disappointing as the car is clean, but it got fairly dirty on the way to the location and the driving lights are full of condensation. The shot was lit with an led torch which was a little too harsh for this particular job.

These two look as if they have turned away from each other after having an argument. As if they are both pondering the situation with a little regret. BUT, don’t worry, no Ducks or Swans argued in the making of this photo. 😉
Again, I’m not sure about the processing of this one… as in I didn’t do any processing. Increased the exposure a little, that’s it. In case you haven’t figured it out at this stage, I’m looking for advice and suggestions. Be sure to comment below.

The sunset was amazing last night. Again, I’m not sure about the processing on this one. It is a HDR image to get the best from the sky, but I’ve deliberately left everything in the middle dark to emphasise the Sky and its reflection. What do you think?

The sky is a bit blown out here – not sure about the processing at all. Hints? Suggestions?

OK, I know I said I was going to give the HDR thing a break, but I thought this might make a good example. And it kind of does… the shot itself is nothing special, it’s just the side of Curraghchase house at dusk. But I do like the Noise (normally evil as far as I am concerned) & Contrast – makes the whole thing kind of dark, almost scary, feeling.

Gary floats through the air with the grace of a brick as he attempts to knock a tree using only his feet and his weight. See Gary, I told you I’d put it up. 😉
Breda, with the camera has a matching shot of me standing under Gary from the far side!

This tree had a two meter section cut off the bottom, but was hanging in the air because the top of the tree was tangled around two other trees. I thought it was an unusual shot – you don’t normally get to see the rings of a tree while it’s still upright!

I brought Azra to Curraghchase yesterday to see the Ducks, Swans and Trees. But most of all, to have a go on the swings! Great fun!
